Dull Oak Blue

This species appears to be less common than A. madytus and A. micale, or perhaps it's just more seasonal and I haven't been to Cairns at the right time of year. The adult was sitting in a small eucalypt in the Cairns Central Swamp. Fortunately, after a while it flew down and settled in some lower, burned out trees. The pupa was at Ellis Beach, north of Cairns.
The groggy-looking adult I photographed on 03/01/2009 had emerged from a pupa that Bob Miller had found when we were at Ellis Beach on 30/12/2008. As you can see, the butterfly looked as if it was on a bad acid trip!
