Notes

I had been to Cairns many times without ever photographing this species (albeit a different subspecies). On my first trip to Darwin I found one within a few minutes of reaching my first butterfly site. Fortunately it cooperated, immediately landing and showing me its upperside - including the two brands on the forewing - and its underside. This was lucky as I hardly saw this species for the remainder of my trip.

I finally photographed the Queensland subspecies in February 2020, both at Forty Mile Scrub and Atherton. I saw a couple of very fresh specimens; they were very beautiful to see though the photos really don't do them justice.
