Notes

My butterflying mate Alex has been rearing this species, and sent me a fresh pair of adults to photograph. They didn't enjoy the trip via Express Post, so I just took a few shots (22/03/2017) while they were still extremely groggy.

As I was spending 8 days in the Barossa Valley over Christmas 2019 (my wife and I had long wanted to do some wine-tasting in the Barossa), I asked Alex if there were any butterfly spots worth visiting in the area. He kindly gave me the location for a colony of lithochroa he'd found near Terowie, so on Boxing Day we went for a bit of a drive...
There were a lot of the nasty, spiky Acacia victoriae bushes at that spot, but checking them all only revealed 3 butterflies. I believe they were all females, probably the last of their generation. Two were worn and tatty but the third looked fresh, though not very keen to pose for photos.
