This species is only known from a few sites in SA and WA, and the subspecies petrina is restricted to a small area near Mukinbudin in WA. Since this spot is located next to a road, and much of inland WA is not next to a road, it's possible there are other colonies that haven't yet been discovered. There were a fair number of these butterflies on the wing at the time I visited the site, which was very encouraging.
