Sahulana scintillata Glistening Line blue

Photo Gallery update : Feb 2019

Coalcliff 31/01/2019.

This was my annual unsuccessful attempt to get photos of the Dark Shield-skipper (Timoconia tymbophora). I walked the Wodi Wodi Track from where it joined the Lawrence Hargrave Drive near Coalcliff to the other end at Stanwell Park station, which was only a few kilometres but over very rugged terrain and on a very hot day.

I didn’t see any sign of Dark Shield-skippers and as usual there was little to be seen in the rainforest, which is now almost completely overgrown with Lantanas. But near the Coalcliff end of the track, before it goes into the forest, there were loads of clumps of a yellow-flowering plant, and Short-tailed Line-blues (Prosotas felderi ) were swarming all over the flowers.

I thought it possible some other butterflies might be attracted too, so I spent a lot of time looking around to see what else might be amongst all those felderi. And I had a bit of luck, as spotting a few Glistening Line-blues (Sahulana scintillata) including the pristine specimen shown above.
