Danis danis (Large Green-banded Blue)

Notes

I saw several of these butterflies along the path at Babinda, to the south of Cairns. They all seemed to be females looking for suitable places to lay eggs. They fluttered slowly around the food plants, landing frequently, though I didn’t actually see them lay any eggs.

At the time I was using a camera that I was struggling with; it was my second point-and-shoot camera and it always took me a long time to get focus on a little butterfly. As a result I only got a few photos, and they weren’t much good, even though this was the day when I saw more Danis danis than I’ve seen on all my other Cairns trips combined.

Since that time I’ve only had a few photo opportunities with this butterfly, so I really need more shots.
