Hypochrysops byzos (Yellow Jewel)

Other Common Name

Yellow-spot Jewel

Notes

I had been looking for this species ever since I began taking butterfly photography seriously in 2004, so it took me almost 20 years and when I did finally find one it was just about the most beaten up butterfly I’ve ever seen.

Obviously I had been hoping to photograph a better specimen, but even a half-dead byzos is better than none.   Maybe next time I’ll be lucky enough to find one like this sighting of two freshly-emerged females, which had been only just over a week earlier…
