Sabera caesina (White-clubbed Swift)

Other Common Name

Black and White Swift

Notes

This is only a small butterfly, but it became something of a favourite of mine right from my first sighting of one. I can’t help but find them quite amusing, and it’s the white-tipped antennae that do it – they look as if the butterfly got a bit close to a tin of white paint and accidentally dipped the end of its antennae in.

I almost always find some caesina when I go to Cairns. I don’t see lots of them, but they can show up anywhere where there’s a patch of rainforest, including the Botanic Gardens.
