Delias nysa (Yellow-spotted Jezebel)

Other Common Names

Nysa Jezebel, Nivira Jezebel

Notes

I’ve not had many sightings of this species, and even when I have seen it there haven’t been any opportunities to get photos. Until October 2010 that is, when I was able to get a few shots at the top of Chapman’s Hill at Wyong. There were at least 4 of them there (along with D. nigrina, aganippe and argenthona), and a couple of times one landed with his wings open. I wasn’t able to get great shots, and no undersides, but I was pleased to finally get anything of this species!

During that summer I saw a lot of nysa around Sydney and the Blue Mountains, though the only time I had any luck photographing them was at Mount Sugarloaf near Newcastle.  After that  I saw a settled female at Jondaryan in Queensland and took a couple of photos, but since then it’s been back to just the occasional sighting and no photo opportunities.
