Hypolimnas alimena (Blue-banded Eggfly)

Hypolimnas alimena lamina
Hypolimnas alimena darwinensis

Notes

On my first Cairns trip in October 2005, I saw and photographed two males by a creek in the rainforest in the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park. They repeatedly settled on the ground, but if I disturbed them they generally flew up and landed on a tree trunk about 2 or 3 metres off the ground.
I also saw a female in the Cairns Botanic Gardens, but I messed it up and wasn’t able to get any photographs

When I went back to Cairns the following April I saw several of these butterflies; only one at a time but I bumped into them on a number of occasions. This time I was able to get a couple of photos of a female, albeit a rather bashed-up specimen.
