I’ve only seen Chrome Awls once, which was in a friend’s front yard in Brisbane. From my limited experience they’re something of a  butterfly photographer’s nightmare. They zip around like mad things, pausing just long enough to make you think you’ve got a chance of getting a half-decent photo, and then they’re off again leaving you with a nice shot of the leaf they’d been sitting on a moment before you pressed the shutter. Well, that’s what happened to me anyway…
