Hasora khoda (Narrow-banded Awl)

Other Common Names

Large Banded Awl

Notes

Although this is supposed to be a common species, I’ve only seen them a few times, and mostly around North Sydney or in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
They’re not easy to photograph, as they are fast fliers, and even when they settle to feed from flowers they never seem to quite stay still for long enough for me to get a good photo.

Oddly enough, almost all my sightings of this species were back in the days when I was using a little point-and-shoot camera. I’ve only once taken a photo of khoda since I got a DSLR, and that was back in 2008.
