Hasora hurama (Narrow-banded Awl)

Hasora hurama hurama
Hasora hurama territorialis

Notes

In September 2008  saw two or three females at Lake Placid in Cairns, either looking for foodplant or laying eggs on it. They exhibited that typical awl behaviour, buzzing around and only landing very briefly before moving on. The best chance of getting photos is when they’re actually laying an egg, and even then they don’t really stay still for long.

I haven’t often seen this butterfly, which is a shame as I think it’s a very interesting little beastie.
