Oreixenica correae (Orange Alpine Xenica)

Other Common Names

Correa Brown

Notes

I saw this species at Thredbo in January 2013. It wasn’t in such numbers as O. orichora or O. kershawi, but it appeared to have a greater range in elevation, as it overlapped with orichora high up the hillside and with kershawi at the bottom.
I found the females were much easier to photograph than the males, partly because I saw more females but also because they were more likely to settle and less inclined to take off like a bat out of hell when the camera flash went off.

On my second visit to Thredbo in February 2024 I saw a lot more correae, and fewer orichora and kershawi. They became very easy to photograph in the later part of the afternoon, when they began settling in the grass to roost for the night.
