Ogyris barnardi (Bright Purple Azure)

Other Common Name

Barnard’s Azure

Notes

I photographed these butterflies at a beautiful location near Jondaryan; by the side of the road, next to a refuse tip and just across from a coal mine! I saw somewhere between 20 and 30 around one tree, and later a few around a couple of other trees nearby. It was hard to get photos, partly because they mostly remained high up, and partly because as soon as one landed another one would swoop down and disturb it. However I did see one settle briefly below head height, so I do think that with sufficient patience it would be possible to get photos with a macro lens (whereas all of mine were taken with my long lens).
