Hypocysta irius (Orange-streaked Ringlet)

Other Common Names

Northern Ringlet

Notes

I usually see a couple of these on my trips to Cairns, but I’ve never seen them in any great numbers.  The first ones I saw were on the grassy slopes near a hilltop close to Cairns where they were competing for territories with the more numerous Mycalesis terminus. On the wing the two species look fairly similar, though their flight is different, with irius flying in that manner so typical of other Hypocysta species.
