Hesperilla crypsigramma (Wide-brand Sedge-skipper)

Hesperilla crypsigramma crypsigramma
Hesperilla crypsigramma ssp. “Top End”

Other Common Names

Small Dingy Skipper

Notes

I saw a couple of these at the top of Spring Mountain, QLD. They were flying around right at ground level, settling occasionally, and chasing anything else that flew close to the ground.
It seems likely that the “Top End” form I saw at Mount Burrell (a.k.a. Burrell’s Trig) in April 2024 is an undescribed subspecies, so I have treated it as a subspecies in anticipation of it being formally described in the future.

Sightings

Spring Mountain, QLD – November 2008
Glacier Rock, near Cairns – September 2012
