Croitana flavescens (Yellow Sand-skipper)

Notes

A few days after I took my photos of Croitana croites at Quaraiding, I briefly glimpsed one individual of this species at Port Kennedy. At the time it was only known as the ‘dark form’ of croites, but Michael Braby’s 2026 revision of the Croitana genus reclassified it as a separate species under the name of C. flavescens.

The upperside  of the one I saw looked pretty much the same as the Quairading specimens, perhaps because it was a rather faded specimen, but the marking on the hindwing underside were clearly darker. Apparently this species is more yellow than croites, which is why flavescens retained the common name Yellow Sand-skipper and croites was renamed as the Pale Sand-skipper.
