Notes
The pics of the larva were taken at the roadside at Lake Placid in Cairns, where it was found by Bob Miller. The shots of the pupa and adult taken in 2009 were stooged – I took them at home after Bob sent the pupa down to me. Unfortunately, the flash makes the adult look more blue than it really was.
I’ve seen few adults in the wild, without getting photos of any until 2026. The first was at Babinda, where the butterfly was quite close but wasn’t stopping for anything. The second was at Fishery Falls, and the same thing happened. On most visits to Cairns I haven’t see any Green Awls at all, though I finally got a couple of shots of one at Goomboora Park in February 2026. It zipped straight past me and settled under a leaf close by.
