Mycalesis sirius (Cedar Bush-brown)

Notes

This has to be one of the most horribly difficult species to photograph!

They tend to land often enough, but not for very long, which is quite frustrating when you’re trying to take pictures. Even when they do settle, more often than not they’re nestled down amongst the long grass where it’s not possible to get a clear photo, even if they let you approach near enough to even take a photo.

I’ve seen them a few times in Cairns, mostly in the Central Swamp, but have very few photos to show for it.  I saw them in a few places around Darwin too, mostly at Leanyer, without getting any shots at all.

Sightings

Cairns – October 2005, April 2006, March 2016
Darwin – April 2018
Port Douglas – June 2022
